Coaching Foundations I

October 28 & 29, 2008

North Canton, Ohio

 

Coaching, both individual and team/organization, is rapidly becoming the number one preferred method to insure adaptability and success in this rapidly changing business, ministry and global marketplace and economy.  Coaching Foundations I provides training on the basic principles and practices of coaching, including "hands-on" practice.  This style of coaching is beneficial for the pastor or to work effectively with your congregation.  For further learning, or for certification opportunities with the International Coach Federation, participants would complete steps 2 though 7.  These continuing courses will be offered by the Job Center in the near future.

Suzanne Goebel PCC    Suzanne holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Development and is a Certified Professional Certified Coach.  In addition to top management and consultant positions in major fortune 500 corporations, she has served in management and as a consultant in Christian ministry organizations such as The Navigators. Her passion is to bring the technology of coaching to Christian organizations to assist those committed to the expansion of God's Kingdom.  Dr. Goebel is certified through the International Coaching Federation and the Georgia Association of Christian Counselors, and is a member of the Christian Stewardship Association. She brings heart, honesty, humor, and healthy excitement to any project and is passionate about seeing people develop their full potential. She resides in Atlanta Georgia.

George 2George G Howard ACC      George has designed and facilitated strategic planning and training processes for 30 years. Clients have included corporations, government agencies, not for profit organizations, communities, churches, conferences and districts.  He serves as the West Ohio Conference Director of Connectional Ministries and is an Associate Certified Coach. He previously served for three years as the Director of Learning & Leadership, and eight years as Director of Congregational Development.  George is certified through the International Coaching Federation, and the West Ohio Annual Conference. Having lived on four continents, George has a passion for building bridges between individuals, groups and cultures, and empowering leaders for the ministry to which they have been called.

STEPS TO BECOMING A CERTIFIED COACH

(The final courses to be certified will be available through the Bishop Rueben Job Center)

Step 1. Coaching Foundations I

bulletFace to face group training will cover key coaching skills
bulletCoaching instruments introduced & practiced
bulletDiscover ways to use coaching and a coach approach

This is a two day class.

Step 2A. Mentoring /Coaching sessions.

bulletEach coachee will choose a mentoring coach
bulletMentoring/Coach will provide six forty five minute sessions over a period of three months

 Step 2B. Coaching Practice

bulletEach coachee will identify two to three persons to coach for three months.

Step 3. Coaching Foundations II – Executive Coaches

bulletFace to face group training will cover coaching skills such as Coach Questions, Stretch Suggestions, Team Coaching & Clean Language practiced in labs.
bulletSpecial focus will be given to coaching teams.

Foundations 1 is a prerequisite for this two day class

Step 4. Tele-classes

bulletThree one-hour tele-classes will be held during the period of time new coaches are experiencing new client relationships.

Step 5 Certification

·         Written and oral exams are offered to those who wish to be credentialed as Certified Coaches by the Bishop Reuben Job Center for Leadership Development.

Step 6 Coach Tele-training

·         Monthly group tele-training sessions for certified coaches will focus on coaching competencies.

Step 7 Annual Reflection

bulletAnnual gathering of coaches will further build the coaching community, continue creating a coaching culture, and hone the conference-coaching network.
